well i restarted with a fresh minimal container, added sendmail first,
sending mail worked, added nagios, and it still works. looking back
at the first one, where i had started rsyslog, i now find in maillog:
2010-07-26T00:41:42.146641-05:00 214 sendmail[3298]: o6Q5fg1A003298:
from=root, size=208, class=0, nrcpts=1,
msgid=<201007260541.o6Q5fg1A003298 at 214.fo4.net>, relay=root at localhost
2010-07-26T00:41:42.149326-05:00 214 sendmail[3298]: o6Q5fg1A003298:
to=214-i386 at whitleymott.net, ctladdr=root (0/0), delay=00:00:00,
xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30208, relay=[127.0.0.1]
[127.0.0.1], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by
[127.0.0.1]
i still wonder why. mystery to me. tho i'm happy to have it working
in the rebuilt one.
