STOP!

Are you talking about the smbfs kernel module which has been deprecated
for ages or the cifs module which you are suppose to be using? If you
are using smbfs then stop doing so, now! It is no longer supported (for
years) and should no longer be used, period. If you are talking about
the cifs module, then please use its proper name.

For reference... I was one of the past maintainers of the smbfs module
and the supporting mount programs for the samba team. Both smbfs and
those supporting applications are no longer supported at all.

The mount types would be...

-t smbfs -- BAD
-t cifs -- Correct

What you are having problems with may still be true but please be
specific, precise, and accurate. In this particular case, there is a
significant different that some of us appreciate.
