[Users] I/O stall with SuSE 10 Kernel

Well, in such situations it usually makes sense to check vmstat,
free memory (you can simply load vzwdog module).

But I would recommend you to upgrade to 2.6.18-028test015 kernel.
It has some new features and is our main target as the stable kernel
with long life support.
