I see - i'll try to get more stuff together (.config/system.map/vmlinux/kdump)

Will try.
also note that right after weird message, doing netstat -an will
apparently trigger this http://marc.info/?l=linux-netdev&m=121644914509394&w=2
suggesting these may be somewhat related. There is no iptable module even
loaded on the box, network in bridge.
