Hi,
Checkpoint-restoring it's more general thing. It's like saves in games :)
Suppose you have some running process/process-tree and you want to
suspend/checkpoint/save its state to the disk. And then, someday,
when you need you will be able to resume processes from the same
"execution moment".
For that you need only CRIU.
Live migration it's about very fast checkpoint-restoring but PLUS about
transferring images between servers, migration of some external
network parameters to
get containers run with the same IP addresses and so on. P.Haul+CRIU
aimed for that.
