It's not about flavor. Or I don't understand your point.
I see two possible ways, how the test can be implemented.
First one is something, starting autofs with direct and indirect mounts 
and making sure, that mounts were migrated and still functional. This is 
relatively easy.
The second one is whne test itself controls mounts. In this case it 
doesn't need an environment, but have to control mounts. This means, 
that is has to talk with the kernel.
